The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a public alert regarding a fake Facebook account created in the name of its Registrar, Professor Dantani Wushishi, allegedly aimed at defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians.
In a statement released on June 1, 2025, by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Azeez Sani, the Council distanced itself from the fraudulent account and warned the public to remain vigilant.
NECO emphasized that the fake social media profile is being used by fraudsters to deceive and extort money from individuals under false pretenses.
The examination body urged Nigerians not to engage with the impostor account and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.According to the statement, security agencies have already been notified and are taking steps to apprehend those behind the scam.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and cautioned the public against falling victim to cyber fraud involving its name or officials.
