NGO Targets Benue, Taraba IDP Camps for Free Medical Outreach

A non-governmental organisation, Open Hands Amazing Charitable Organization Inc., has announced plans to conduct a week-long free medical outreach in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Benue and Taraba states beginning October 30, 2025.

The exercise will target vulnerable groups including children, women, the elderly and persons with disabilities, many of whom face poor access to medicines and healthcare.

Founder of the NGO, Dr Magdalene Agada, said the initiative was a humanitarian response to the urgent health needs of displaced persons. “We are reaching out to IDP camps where we have extreme vulnerability—lack of access to medicines and medications for children, babies, women, the disabled and the elderly in forgotten communities across Nigeria,” she stated.

She stressed that her motivation was rooted in compassion rather than personal gain. “I’m not doing this because I’m rich or looking for any position, but out of pure philosophic humanities, since lives are like candles in the wind and all is vanity upon vanities,” Dr Agada added.

In the recent past, Open Hands Amazing Charitable Organization Inc. has donated critical health equipment to institutions such as the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and some state ministries of health.

The founder also appealed for wider collaboration to strengthen the outreach programme. “We call for partnerships from individuals, organisations and government institutions. Together, we can sustain this mission of bringing healthcare to those who need it most,” she said.

Dr Agada noted that lack of access to basic medicines has continued to pose severe risks to vulnerable communities across the country, stressing that transformative partnerships are needed to deliver hope and improve health outcomes.
