In a renewed push to protect the rights of marginalized groups, the Lagos State office of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is partnering with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos Command, to tackle discrimination and abuse against vulnerable individuals.

During a visit to the NSCDC command headquarters on Thursday, May 8, 2025, NHRC Lagos Coordinator, Mr. Lucas Koyejo, highlighted the need for strong institutional collaboration to protect women, children, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and people living with health conditions such as HIV and tuberculosis.

“Our goal is to ensure that no group is left behind or unfairly treated. Discrimination and criminalization of the vulnerable must stop, and we believe working with security agencies like the NSCDC is critical to achieving that,” Koyejo stated.

Welcoming the NHRC delegation, NSCDC Lagos Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, reaffirmed the Corps’ dedication to human rights and gender sensitivity. He noted that the NSCDC continues to adopt inclusive practices and collaborates with other law enforcement bodies to ensure justice and protection for all.

Keshinro also underscored the importance of removing procedural barriers that hinder effective investigations and pledged to deepen collaboration with the NHRC through joint training and rights enforcement initiatives.

The new alliance marks a significant step toward improving the legal and social protections available to vulnerable groups in Lagos State.
