Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday reiterated his administration’s commitment to scaling up investments in healthcare infrastructure across the state, with a focus on emergency response, maternal care, and disease prevention to meet the growing demands of residents.
The Governor spoke at the official handing-over ceremony of the newly constructed Custodian Accident and Emergency Centre in Epe, a project executed through a collaboration between the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation.
Describing the facility as “a bold step forward,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said the project sets a new benchmark in the state’s infrastructure and social development agenda. He stressed that the centre would significantly improve access to urgent, lifesaving medical services, particularly for residents in riverine and rural communities.
“This centre is not just a building—it is a vital facility that can mean the difference between life and death,” the Governor said. “With state-of-the-art equipment, well-structured treatment areas, and modern support facilities, this emergency centre is designed to deliver swift and life-saving care to residents of Epe and surrounding areas.”
The facility boasts triage units, fully equipped emergency wards, diagnostic units, staff lounges, and waiting areas. According to Sanwo-Olu, such infrastructure will not only enhance patient outcomes but also improve staff efficiency, reduce response times, and reinforce public trust in the health system.
He commended Custodian Investments Limited for sponsoring the project and applauded the Ministry of Health and the project implementation team for their commitment to excellence.
“Our administration will not relent in its efforts to ensure that timely and efficient emergency care is a right, not a luxury,” the Governor added. “We will continue to build facilities that secure the health, safety, and dignity of every Lagosian.”
Sanwo-Olu urged healthcare professionals, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to take ownership of the facility and work collectively to ensure its sustainability.
Also speaking at the event, Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, affirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening public-private partnerships—especially in health insurance initiatives that can support emergency care. He said the government is working to develop sustainable programmes that improve healthcare delivery across Lagos.
Earlier in the day, Governor Sanwo-Olu paid a working visit to Charterhouse Lagos Secondary School in Lekki, where he praised the school’s serene environment and innovative learning facilities.
“It is a good ground for learning,” the Governor remarked. “Everything here reflects a strong focus on student well-being and educational excellence.”
