Nigeria Inks Deal to Detect High-Risk Cargo Before Arrival, Boosting National Security

Nigeria is set to take a major leap in aviation and cargo management following the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with DALIL UAE in Abu Dhabi.

The agreement, led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, marks the beginning of Nigeria’s adoption of Advanced Cargo Information systems, an innovation designed to transform security, efficiency, and trade facilitation across the nation’s airports.

During the high-level visit hosted at Abu Dhabi International Airport and the UAE’s Command and Control Center, the Nigerian delegation was introduced to world-class cargo management technology.

With the MoU now in place, Nigeria will begin feasibility studies later this year, paving the way for a nationwide rollout of the system by 2026.

The Minister explained that the deployment of this technology will allow Nigeria to detect high-risk cargo before it enters the country and cut down clearance delays.

Others are, improve revenue collection through real-time monitoring, and unlock fresh opportunities for trade.

Beyond safety and efficiency, the system is also expected to firmly establish Nigeria as West Africa’s aviation and logistics hub, in line with international standards set by ICAO and the World Customs Organization.

With this move, Nigeria positions itself at the forefront of aviation digital transformation, signaling stronger security, smarter operations, and greater competitiveness in the global cargo market.

On the entourage of the minister are, the Director General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Director of Cargo Development, FAAN, Mr. Olalekan Thomas Director of Aviation Security, FAAN, ASP Albert A. Igbafe, Rtd. and Area Controller of Customs, representing the Nigerian Customs Service, Mr. Michael Awe.
