The Yellow Greens of Nigeria went against all odds today to inflict a shocking defeat on the best ranked nation Uganda in the 9th Kwibuka women’s T20i cricket tournament in Rwanda.
Nigeria needed a convincing win to play in tomorrow’s final, and chased down a target of 72 with great determination to emerge victorious by 3- wickets against the Ugandans.
However the Greens came short despite the win as they finished 3rd in the standings finishing with an inferior net run rate compared to the host nation who placed 2nd behind 1st placed Uganda.
Today marks the end of the 2nd phase of the round robin competition which started last weekend.
Rwanda and Uganda will contest tomorrow’s final while Nigeria square up to Kenya in the 3rd/4th place playoff.
In a related development, the Nigeria Cricket Federation NCF has won the 100% Female Cricket Initiative of the year 2023 at the ICC Development Awards.
