Stakeholders in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector are set to converge in Yola for the 2026 Colloquium of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), an event expected to focus on the future of the country’s healthcare and pharmaceutical industry.
The Governor of Adamawa State, Alh. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is expected to host the gathering, which will bring together pharmacists, policymakers, regulators and development partners to deliberate on key issues affecting the sector.
According to the President of the PSN, Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, the meeting will provide a platform for professionals to assess the progress of the pharmaceutical industry while exploring strategies to strengthen healthcare delivery in the country.
He noted that discussions during the colloquium would also focus on the long-term development of the pharmaceutical profession, particularly in the areas of local drug production, policy reforms and professional capacity development.
The colloquium is scheduled to hold from March 29 to April 1 at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Yola, which will also serve as part of activities that will usher in the centenary celebration of the pharmaceutical profession in Nigeria in 2027.
As part of the programme, the PSN is expected to launch a Centenary Trust Fund aimed at supporting the future growth and development of the pharmaceutical sector in Nigeria.
Chairman of the PSN Centenary Planning Committee and former president of the society, Olumide Akintayo, said the initiative forms part of efforts to reposition the profession and strengthen Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry.
The colloquium will feature a keynote presentation by pharmaceutical scholar Cyril Odianose Usifoh, alongside technical sessions expected to examine policy directions, industry challenges and opportunities for growth in the sector.
Stakeholders say the discussions will also address the need to expand local drug manufacturing as Nigeria targets increased domestic pharmaceutical production in the coming years.
Several senior government officials and leaders in the pharmaceutical profession are expected to attend the event, including members of the PSN leadership, regulatory authorities and representatives of the healthcare sector.
Organisers say the colloquium will provide a forum for policy dialogue, professional networking and collaboration as Nigeria prepares to mark 100 years of the pharmaceutical profession in 2027.
