The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, and the National Council on Climate Change are strengthening collaboration to improve climate services and build Nigeria’s resilience to climate change.
During a courtesy visit to the Council’s Secretariat, as a contained in a statement, NiMet Director General, Professor Charles Anosike, said the Agency remains the custodian of Nigeria’s long-term weather records, providing critical data for climate forecasting, risk assessment, and policy planning.
Professor Anosike called for stronger cooperation in climate research, data management, early warning systems, and joint funding initiatives to improve access to climate finance and support evidence-based decision-making.
In response, Director General of the National Council on Climate Change, Dr. Tenioye Majekodunmi, welcomed the initiative and pledged closer collaboration.
Both organisations agreed to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen climate services, research, capacity development, and early warning systems aimed at protecting lives, livelihoods, and the environment.
