NiMet presents draft forecast 2022 Seasonal Climate Prediction to stakeholders in Abuja

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has presented the 2022 draft forecast of its Seasons Climate Prediction, SCP, to stakeholders in the various sectors of the economy.

The presentation made at a one-day Seasonal Climate Prediction, SCP Workshop in Abuja is to gather their contributions as a prelude to the public presentation of the 2022 SCP.

Director General, NiMet, Prof Mansur Matazu in his keynote address said, the objective of the partnership with the stakeholders is to engage them on their role in the co-production of the SCP for effective understanding and efficient utilitarian of the products.

He stated that, the objective of these partnerships was to engage with stakeholders on their roles in the co production of the SCP for effective understanding and efficient utilization of the products.

Prof. Matazu expressed the hope that for 2022, NiMet expects further improvement in the content of the SCP through the presence of the various stakeholders, drawing from their wealth of experience to deliver a product that is of high quality, user oriented, impact based and reliable across the various socioeconomic sectors.

He added that, NiMet would ensure the the SCP Updates and its downscaled versions and several other products  and services from the Agency reach the required users, and achieve desired impacts, NiMet relied on collaborators.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the SCP coordinator, and General Manager  AGROMET, Mr Haruna Zakari said, apart from the presentation of the draft forecast, the aim of the workshop was also to debate on the socioeconomic implications of the SCP for informed decision making in Agriculture, Health, Construction, Defence, Oil & Gas, Disaster Risk Reduction & Management, Education, Marine and Maritime.

Every year NiMet presents the Seasonal Climate Prediction to guide activities in various sectors of the economy.
