NIS Launches Nationwide Sensitisation to Tackle Irregular Migration, Trafficking

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has flagged off a two-day nationwide sanitization programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of officers to combat smuggling, irregular migration and human trafficking at Zone A Ikeja Lagos .

. CG Kemi Nandap, who was represented by the Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Zone A, Mohammed Adamu, said the exercise focused on the revalidated National Migration Policy (NMP 2025) and its implementation.

The Controller-General, noted that the programme became necessary following gaps identified in previous migration frameworks.

Nandad pointed out that the 2015 policy later proved inadequate due to evolving migration patterns, economic realities and growing national security concerns.

The Comptroller-General stressed that a perception survey revealed low awareness of the policy among stakeholders, a development that limited its implementation .

According to her, the training is a strategic capacity-building initiative designed to enhance professionalism, improve migration procedures and strengthen inter-agency collaboration.

The immigration boss further listed key reforms undertaken by the Service, to include the introduction of the e-Visa regime, Contactless Passport Application System, e-Border Solution infrastructure, Passport Personalisation Centre, and the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card (ENBIC).

Nandap stressed that Nigeria’s borders must serve as both a line of defence against transnational crimes such as trafficking and smuggling, and as gateways for legitimate trade, investment and tourism.

The two day-sensitization event has the theme enhancing awareness for effective migration management and border governance .
