The Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwan Akiolu, has expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome its current challenges and achieve greatness.
The monarch made this known when a delegation of the Nigerian Navy, led by the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, paid him a courtesy visit at his Iga Iduganran Palace on Lagos Island.
Oba Akiolu said there was a need for renewed efforts in shaping positive narratives about the country, noting that the National Orientation Agency has a critical role to play in projecting a good national image and promoting patriotism among Nigerians.
He recalled the long-standing historical relationship between the Lagos traditional institution and the Nigerian Navy, which he said dates back to pre-colonial times, and assured the Navy of his support in tackling insecurity within Nigeria’s territorial waters.
Earlier, Rear Admiral Mustapha said the visit was to formally introduce himself to the Oba of Lagos following his assumption of office last year, and to seek the monarch’s support in strengthening military-civilian relations and promoting peace.
He described Lagos State as strategic to the operations of the Nigerian Navy, noting that the state occupies a central position in the nation’s blue economy and serves as Nigeria’s maritime gateway to West Africa.
The visit concluded with Oba Akiolu offering traditional prayers for the Naval delegation, wishing them success in their assignment and safety in the discharge of their duties.
