One Dead, as another building collapses in Lagos

One person has been confirmed dead in a three storey building that collapsed today on Lagos Island in Lagos.


Three persons have so far been rescued from the building at number 4 Alayika Lane which gave way during the torrential rain this afternoon.


But according to the Director General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, .Mr. Femi Oke Osanyintolu, an unconfirmed number of people are still trapped inside the building. 


He said that the building was already in violation of safety protocols.


In a statement Dr. Osanyintolu said that it was discovered that the building had been captured by the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA District Office and served with all Statutory Notices, sealed at District and Central Enforcement Level. 


He said further investigation determined that the developer had continued clandestine operations mostly at night and at weekends. 


Meanwhile, Search and rescue operations have continued.
