One person has died and eight others were rescued after a three-storey building with a penthouse collapsed at No. 28 Baale Alayabiagba Street, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos.
Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the structure was undergoing manual demolition when it caved in, trapping several workers beneath the debris.
“Upon arrival, a three-storey building with a penthouse was found to have collapsed while being manually demolished,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
He said the injured victims received first aid from LASAMBUS officials and were taken to Ajeromi General Hospital for further treatment.
Rescue operations, jointly conducted by LASEMA, NEMA, the Nigeria Police, Lagos Fire Service, and Neighborhood Watch, are ongoing to ensure no one remains trapped.
