The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, has commenced the screening exercise for candidates of the 12th Regular Course Intake as part of efforts to ensure a transparent, merit-driven, and professional recruitment process into the Nigeria Police Force.
The exercise, which began on Monday, 6th October 2025, brought together top officials and representatives from key institutions overseeing police recruitment and training in the country.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Patrick A. Atayero, received a high-powered delegation from the Police Service Commission (PSC), which included Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Rtd), a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria representing the judiciary on the Commission, and DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd), representing the Nigeria Police Force and serving as Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters.
The visiting delegation was warmly received by the Commandant and senior officers of the Academy before being conducted round the screening centres to observe the ongoing exercise.
The officials expressed satisfaction with the level of organization, discipline, and transparency demonstrated by the officers coordinating the process, commending the Academy’s management for maintaining high standards in line with federal government directives on police recruitment and training.
Justice Galumje and DIG Lakanu emphasized the importance of fairness, professionalism, and accountability throughout the screening process to ensure that only qualified candidates are selected for admission.
They noted that the ongoing exercise reflects the federal government’s resolve to reform and strengthen the Nigeria Police Force through improved training, discipline, and professionalism.
Speaking during the inspection, AIG Atayero reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to excellence and merit-based selection, stressing that the institution remains steadfast in its mission to produce well-trained officers who will serve the nation with integrity and uphold the rule of law.
He added that the Nigeria Police Academy continues to align its recruitment and training policies with the vision of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to enhance security architecture and restore public confidence in law enforcement agencies.
The screening exercise is expected to continue through the week, with candidates from across the federation undergoing comprehensive verification and assessments as part of efforts to build a more capable and disciplined police force for national service.
