Police Arrest Suspect Over Cement Diversion

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Bashiru Suleiman, for allegedly diverting ₦8 million worth of BUA Cement meant for delivery in Ilorin.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Adekini Ojo, the suspect impersonated a client and masterminded the fraudulent diversion of a cement-laden truck, which was later recovered—though the cement had already been offloaded.

Mr. Ojo disclosed this during a press briefing on the command’s operations for the month of May.

He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the truck driver and his assistant, who are currently on the run.

The Commissioner also revealed that the command made several other arrests linked to serious crimes including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and theft.

One of the suspects, Habeeb Alhaji Sheu, was arrested for allegedly burgling a house in Ilorin.

Sixteen stolen mattresses were recovered from him, with six already identified by victims.

Mr. Ojo emphasized that these coordinated operations underscore the police command’s renewed commitment to public safety and determination to dismantle criminal networks in the state.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to assist law enforcement in maintaining peace and security in Kwara.
