The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Oluwafunmilola Mutiat Disu, has called for stronger national commitment toward protecting, educating, and empowering every Nigerian child, regardless of background or social status.
Mrs. Disu made the appeal during the 2026 National Children’s Day celebration held on Tuesday, where she stressed the importance of building an inclusive society that guarantees equal opportunities for all children.
Speaking on the theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” the POWA President said the future of the nation depends largely on the quality of support, education, and protection given to children today.
“The future is now. Every child carries the power to dream, learn, and lead,” she stated.
She reaffirmed POWA’s commitment to promoting child welfare, particularly among families of police personnel, noting that education remains one of the most valuable investments in national development.
Mrs. Disu disclosed that the association recently awarded 20 scholarships across POWA schools, benefiting pupils in 19 primary schools and one secondary school, with special consideration for children of fallen police officers.
She also commended the Nigeria Police Force Education Unit for reducing school fees for children of junior-ranking police officers, describing the initiative as a major relief for struggling families.
The POWA President pledged continued support for programmes and policies aimed at improving access to quality education for vulnerable children across the country.
Addressing children directly, Mrs. Disu urged them to remain committed to their education and avoid social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime, and violence.
“Choose discipline, integrity, compassion, and excellence. The choices you make today will shape your future,” she advised.
She also remembered children displaced by insecurity in different parts of the country and called for intensified efforts to ensure their safe rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.
Mrs. Disu further appreciated teachers, caregivers, and parents for their continued sacrifices in nurturing children and shaping future leaders.
She urged Nigerians to collectively work toward building a society where every child feels safe, valued, protected, and empowered to achieve their full potential.
The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) is a welfare and advocacy organisation focused on supporting police families, women, and children across Nigeria.
