President Bola Tinubu has expressed displeasure over the killing of innocent people in the country under the guise of religion or financial interest.
President Tinubu made this known at the Eid- prayer to mark this year’s Eid- Fitri at the Dodan Barracks Praying Ground, Obalende, Lagos.
He explained that there was no Holy teaching that permits the killing of innocent people.
He stressed that Nigerians, Muslim faithful in particular, must learn from the lesson of the Eid-fitr celebration which preaches love for God and humanity as well as obedience to God Almighty.
President Tinubu emphasised that the issue of hatred and discrimination should not be encouraged in the society.
He said that Nigerians should value the lives of one another and should show genuine love to everyone around them irrespective of their social or religious status.
President Tinubu added that every Nigerian should embrace the spirit of tolerance at all times so as to have a more peaceful and united nation.
On his part, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hazmat advised Nigerians to always abide by the rule of law and live at peace with one another.
He stressed that peaceful coexistence is one of the keys to achieving desired development in any nation.
In a sermon at the event, the Chief Iman of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nollah advised Nigerians to ensure that the peace and unity of Nigeria was paramount to them.
He said that the advancement of any nation was usually encouraged by a society ruled by peace and unity.
He stressed that all forms of violence and terrorism were ungodly and should not be encouraged in the country.
Other dignitaries at the event include the Governor of Lagos’ State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a former Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, National Security Adviser to the President, Nuhu Ribadu and the Speaker, Lagos State Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa.
