The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the Federal Government and relevant agencies a ten-day ultimatum to meet its welfare demands or face a nationwide strike.
In a communiqué signed by its President, Dr. Tope Osundara; General Secretary, Dr. Oluwasola Odunbaku; and Publicity and Social Secretary, Dr. Omoha Amobi, the doctors said the resolution followed an Extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The association recalled that it had earlier issued a three-week ultimatum in July but extended it by another three weeks to allow further engagement with stakeholders. Despite the extension, NARD said the Federal Government failed to fulfil its promises.
Among its key demands are the immediate payment of outstanding allowances and entitlements, restoration of recognition for postgraduate membership certificates, and urgent resolution of welfare issues affecting members in Kaduna and Oyo states.
NARD warned that failure to address these concerns before the deadline, which expires on Wednesday, September 10, would compel its members to embark on a nationwide strike.
