Sanwo-Olu Mourns Passing of Oba of Badagry, Babatunde Akran

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Oba of Badagry and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi the First, Aholu Babatunde Akran.

In a condolence statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the respected traditional ruler passed on at the age of 89, describing his death as a great loss to Badagry, Lagos State and the traditional institution.

The governor noted that Aholu Akran spent nearly 49 years on the throne, serving his people with wisdom, humility and unwavering commitment. He recalled that the late monarch, a former journalist, brought clarity, balance and foresight into his leadership, successfully blending the preservation of Badagry’s rich cultural heritage with the pursuit of development.

According to Sanwo-Olu, Aholu Akran was a unifying force who promoted Badagry’s history, festivals and cultural identity, while dedicating himself selflessly to the growth and progress of the community.

The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the people of Badagry and all those affected by the monarch’s passing, praying that God grants them the strength to bear the loss and that the soul of Aholu Babatunde Akran rests in perfect peace.
