Sanwo-Olu Tasks Lagosians On Environment Preservation Through Tree Planting

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu wants more residents to join in preserving the environment by planting trees.

He made the appeal during a tree planting initiative, “The Evergreen Project Lagos” a brainchild of Miss Naita Gupta of the African Steel Evergreen Project.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said since 2008, the State government had planted over eight million trees, explained that his administration had planted sixty thousand trees across different locations in the state.

The Governor commended the Gupta family for the tree planting initiative and urged other residents of the state to join the effort.

“I want to ask everyone to push and encourage laudable initiatives like this so that we can preserve our Lagos. We can preserve a place where we all call home and we can ensure that the future that is in the hands of teenagers who are here today is secured. We should plant more trees to save the environment,” he said.

In her remarks, Miss Naita Gupta said her interest in Lagos arose from her geography class during which she studied the environment and commenced the tree planting initiative on Friday, December 17, with the aim of planting one thousand trees across Lagos before the end of this year.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and four others planted five tree during the event, bringing the total number of trees planted so far under the project to two hundred.
