Save the Children Opens Second Round of Funding for Vaccine Innovation Projects

Save the Children has opened a second round of applications for its Immunisation Accelerator Programme, inviting organisations in Nigeria and Ethiopia to submit proposals aimed at overcoming barriers to childhood vaccination.

In a statement, Immunisation Accelerator Lead Ermias Teshome said eligible groups — including NGOs, social enterprises, tech firms, and research teams — can receive up to $100,000 in funding, alongside tailored technical support.

The $1 million initiative, launched in April 2023 and funded by GSK, targets “zero dose” children — those who have never received any routine vaccinations.

There are an estimated 2.1 million such children in Nigeria and nearly one million in Ethiopia.

“As conflicts, climate change, and other crises disrupt immunisation efforts, bold and localised innovation is urgently needed,” said Teshome.

“We’re seeking scalable, context-driven solutions that address both supply and demand barriers.”Chief Global Health Officer at GSK, Thomas Breuer, noted that the programme is already yielding promising results.

“It’s inspiring to see how locally led solutions are helping shape a healthier future for children,” he said.

One such innovation is a data-driven solution by Ethiopia’s HABTech Solutions PLC, which received funding in the first round.

Interested applicants must be at the testing or evidence-generation stage of their innovation.

The deadline for submissions is July 27, 2025, and applications can be made via www.stc-accelerator.org.
