Shipowners Get New Exco

Ship owners under the aegis of
the Nigeria Shipowners Association of Nigeria, NISA, has promised to partner the Federal Government in harnessing the potentials of the Maritime industry.

President of NISA, Otunba Sola Adewunmi made the promise in Lagos at the inauguration of the new Exco headed by him.

He said that the new Exco would liaise with the incoming government and make recommendations on how to leverage on the many advantages of shipping.

According to him many countries are living solely on shipping, and that there is no reason why Nigeria should not make much money from the subsector.

He said that shipping is a trillion-naira industry and that the Association would be liaising with all the relevant agencies to get the best out of the sector and promised to work in line with the vision and ideas of the founding fathers of the association.

Mr. Adewunmi said that the association would put an end to the government not paying necessary attention to shipping by ensuring that it draws the government’s attention to the industry to bridge the unemployment gap in the country.

He said that the Nigerian Maritime Expo, a brainchild of the association would hold before the end of 2023 or early next year and announced that the association would be moving to its new fully furnished secretariat.

He appealed to agrieved members of the association to join hands with him in building a more vibrant association.

On his part, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Isaac Jolapamo said that there is much work to be done and expressed confidence in the ability of the new executive to hit the ground running.

He charged them to introduce some changes in running the affairs of the association saying that, “we have been in this fight for so long without getting anywhere, your administration will bring about the realization of the reasons why the association was created.
