Abuja – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate disengagement of his Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy attached to the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Fegho John Umunubo.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House.
According to the statement, Mr. Umunubo ceases to represent the Presidency in any official capacity with effect from today.
The Presidency cautioned stakeholders in the digital and creative economy sector, both within and outside Nigeria, against conducting any official business with the former aide.
The statement read in part:
“Stakeholders and constituents of the digital and creative economy, at home and abroad, as well as the general public are hereby notified that Fegho John Umunubo, who hitherto served as the Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy (Office of the Vice President), has been disengaged with immediate effect. Kindly note that he no longer represents this administration in any capacity. Henceforth, anyone who interfaces with him in the name of President Tinubu’s administration does so at his or her own risk.”
The Presidency further advised all players in the fast-growing digital and creative sector to take note of the development and relate only with duly recognised government representatives.
Mr. Umunubo, a lawyer and policy advocate, was appointed in 2023 to support Vice President Kashim Shettima in coordinating initiatives targeted at boosting Nigeria’s digital economy and creative industries. His removal marks one of the recent shake-ups within the Tinubu administration as efforts continue to streamline government operations.
