Troops Nab Notorious Kidnap Kingpin in Taraba, Launch Manhunt for Victims

Troops of the 6th Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a notorious kidnap suspect in Wukari Local Council of Taraba State.

The breakthrough, recorded during Operation Zafin Wuta, marks a major step in ongoing efforts to curb rising criminal activities in the area.

In a statement, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Umar Muhammad, confirmed that the suspect, Umar Mus Geyi, was apprehended on November 22, 2025, at Jandei-Kulamu following credible intelligence.

Geyi, long on the security watchlist, is believed to be a key player in a kidnapping syndicate responsible for multiple abductions across Wukari.

Preliminary investigations have also linked him to the November 13, 2025 kidnapping of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of the Jandei-Kulala axis, who remains in captivity.

The Army disclosed that soldiers intercepted Geyi while he was engaged in a phone call confirming the victim was still being held and demanding a N20 million ransom.

The suspect is currently in military custody as efforts intensify to locate the victim and ensure his safe rescue.

Security operatives are also working to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.

Brig.-Gen. Kingsley C. Uwa, Commander of the 6th Brigade, commended the troops for their swift and coordinated action.

He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks in Taraba and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible information to security agencies.
