Youths in Itire-Ikate Warned Against Electoral Malpractice

Youths have again been advised to ensure they avoid all forms of violence and participate actively in the coming general elections.

Speaking at a voter education townhall meeting organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Itire-Ikate branch, guest speaker at the event and founder, African Youth Initiative on Crime
Prevention, Mr. Chris Ibe stated that the only duty expected from the youths at the polling booths is to vote the candidate of their choice.

Mr. Ibe called on young people not to interfere in securing polls, but allow security agencies carry out their duties, in order to maintain law and order.

He stated that “we have a civic responsibility to vote, but it must be done without violating the law”

In a remark, the DPO, Ijesha Police Station , CSP Matthew Olaore who reiterated that the youths were the targets some politicians, appealed to parents to warm their Children and ward not to yield to financial pressures to carry out electoral malpractices.

The Policeman also warned that irregular activities such as carrying of weapons, emblems of political parties, underage loitering, as well asusage of phones around the booths will not be condoned.

He said “We are not saying political parties should not campaign, but they should not use thugs to torment innocent citizens”

In a welcome address, the Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Itire-ikate Chapter, Comrade Ayodele Oshodi who commended Chairman of the LCDA, Dr. Ahmed Apatira for supporting young people in that area, also urged youths in the community to remain law abiding throughout the electioneering.

“Many of you have potentials, don’t be a tool in the hands of evil doers during the general elections” Oshodi added.

The event which was attended by youths in Itire-ikate, also had as speakers, religious leaders as well as, Community Development leaders.
