2023 Community Day: Sanwo-Olu Promises Health Palliatives

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised to provide health palliatives to Lagos State residents to cushion the effects of high prices of drugs due to the economic challenges in the country.

Recall that on Wednesday, at the presentation of the 2024 Budget to the House of Assembly, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa had called for other forms of palliatives including health palliatives to help Lagos residents cope with the biting economy.

On Thursday, speaking in the Yoruba language, Governor Sanwo-Olu promised health palliatives at the 2023 Community Day celebration with the theme, “Community Engagement: A veritable tool for infrastructure development in rural communities,” held at the Police College in Ikeja.

The Governor thanked the various Community Development Associations in the state for their support during the last general elections, stating that Lagos is on the path to greatness, as he promised more projects at the grassroots.

Earlier, the Chairman of Community Development Advisory Council, Alhaji Azeez Amusat, called for the review of the CDAs constitution in the state, with an appeal to the Governor to construct a Community House as State secretariat for all CDAs activities in the State.

In a welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Agbaje, commended the winning CDAs for their self-help projects to develop their communities, with a call on other CDAs to support the government in infrastructural development noting that government one cannot achieve residents demands.

Eighteen-seat buses were presented to the first, second and third CDAs which are Greenland Estate CDA in Eti Osa East LCDA, Royal Estate CDA in Egbe Idimu LCDA and Elepe Royal Estate in Ikorodu Council Area, while the best rural community award went to Araromi CDA in Ibeji Lekki LCDA.

Consolation prices of five hundred thousand naira each was also given to the fifth to tenth CDAs.
