CAN charges Christians to pray for President-elect, Tinubu to succeed

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has called on the electorate to actively participate in the forthcoming gubernatorial and state houses of assembly elections.

At a news briefing in Ikeja, the Chairman of CAN in Lagos State, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, said the turnout at the presidential election was concerning.

Appraising the conduct and outcome of the just concluded presidential election, the Lagos State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, said once a president-elect has emerged, the nation needed to pray for the successful tenure of the leader.

He noted that the country’s unity was critical to making the incoming administration successful and for Nigerians to achieve their potential.

Bishop Adegbite called on Lagos residents to be mindful of utterances that could trigger violence, saying that the forthcoming gubernatorial election should be peaceful.

“We don’t want crisis. We don’t want violence and we don’t want intimidation from anybody. People should be careful of what they say, and that is what we have addressed today. Don’t provoke the other person because your rights stop where another man’s rights begin. So, we must be considerate,” he admonished.

On the low turnout of voters at the presidential election, Bishop Adegbite said voter apathy was worrisome and called on the electorate to actively participate in the gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections on March 11.

“And they will be complaining, they will be talking on the phone, but on the day of action, you are sleeping. Our children will be playing football. You get the leaders you deserve. If you don’t come out to vote the people that will vote will produce a result and the result will be declared, and a winner will be declared. I will urge all and sundry to prepare for March 11 and vote,” said Bishop Adegbite.

In a remark, the National Convener, Progressive Christian Clerics Council of Nigeria, Pastor Timothy Ademola, urged the faithful to support the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to succeed.

“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been given to us by God, and from his track record in conjunction with the admonition of scriptures, we know that this is a leader who delivers. This is a leader who brings the dividends of democracy. This is a leader that causes society to work; this is a leader that brings development. Therefore, I call on all Nigerian Christians to rise up and support what God has done and let us move Nigeria to her Olympian destiny,” said Pastor Ademola.

Pastor Ademola said that despite the lapses observed during the presidential election, the Independent National Electoral Commission had improved and should be supported to do better.
