FAAN AVSEC arrests 18 suspected criminals at Lagos Airport

Eighteen suspected criminals have been arrested for various offences by the personnel of the aviation security arm of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at Murtala Mohammed International Airport MMIA, Lagos.

Out of the eighteen, ten have been arraigned and eight sentenced to two months in jail.

The Chief Security Officer of MMIA, Mr Adebayo Badejo who disclosed this at this year’s FAAN customer service week, said the MMIA Management has put all necessary security apparatus in place to combat activities of hoodlums and touts at the airport.

According to Mr. Badejo, the task of reducing criminal activities at the airport was a huge one and this would require the assistance of passengers, airport users and other stakeholders to tackle it headon.

“We arrested them and took them to the police, they arraigned ten of them at the court and eight of them were sent to Kirikiri for the next two months”.

The Acting General Manager Public Affairs FAAN, Mrs Faithful Hope-Ivabze said efforts were on to ensure that anyone seeing off traveling family member are kept far away from the terminal, adding that, five persons accompanying a travelling family member to the airport was putting a lot of strain on their facilities and constitute security threat to the airport.

She stated that, comfort, safety and security facilities are being upgraded and improved on for better passenger experience.

“The new terminals that have been commissioned are a testimony to what FAAN has been doing making sure our customers get the best if services, also we ensure that those conveniences are always clean, also the domestic runway”.

In her opening remarks, the General Manager Customer Service FAAN Mrs Annie Iduh while appreciating customers for their patronage and understanding, called for their unalloyed support to move the industry forward.
