
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA has confirmed the death of one person, while two others sustained injuries following a gas tanker explosion at Ologuro Bus Stop in Sangotedo area of Lagos.
The incident, according to a statement by Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu,
occurred after a tipper truck rammed into a gas tanker from behind, triggering a fire outbreak, with led to the death of the truck driver.
Dr Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA emergency response team, popularly known as the Shark Team, arrived promptly at the scene and discovered that the collision led to the explosion and subsequent fire.
According to him, Preliminary investigations reveals that the accident was caused by over speeding and reckless driving by the driver of the tipper truck who died instantly, while two adult females sustained minor injuries.
“It was also observed that the resulting fire engulfed four roadside shops, causing significant damage. The tanker’s contents remain trapped within the vehicle, and recovery operations are currently ongoing”
“Our Shark Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS officials, responded swiftly and successfully curtailed the spread of the fire, preventing it from escalating to adjoining buildings”
The Permanent Secretary commended other first responders including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service who worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
