LASU checks Sexual and Gender Based Violence in its Campuses


Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello at the 2022-2023 Matriculation ceremony held at the main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The Lagos State University,  LASU, has set up modalities to check all forms of Sexual and Gender Based Violence in its campuses.

 The Vice Chancellor,  LASU,  Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello made this known at the 2022-2023 Matriculation ceremony of the University held at the main campus, Ojo. 

She said due to the University’s zero tolerance for Sexual and Gender Based Violence, the institution had established a special Directorate charged with the responsibility of preventing and responding to such cases in the university environment. 

Prof. Olatunji-Bello therefore, warned the new students not to engage in such criminal acts so as not to face serious disciplinary actions.

She however, encouraged anyone that experienced any form of sexual harassment or violence to report such case to relevant authority for necessary action.

The Vice Chancellor also warned the students against other social vices like cultism, examination Malpractices, hooliganism and other vices that might be injurious to their well being or make them face serious disciplinary actions in the university. 

Prof. Olatunji Bello however, assured the students that necessary strategies had been put in place within the campus to ensure their safety at all times.

She stressed that while the students should be security conscious, they should not shy away from reporting  suspicious actions observed  around them to the school authority.

The Vice Chancellor advised the students to be serious with their academics so as to benefit from different incentives the university had put in place to encourage students that performed exceptional well in their academics.

A total of Ten Thousand, Three Hundred and One Students admitted into the Lagos State University in the 2022-2023 academic session took the university Matriculation oath.
