NCDC Confirms Abuja Suspected Ebola, Marburg Cases Test Negative

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two suspected cases of viral haemorrhagic fever in Abuja have tested negative for both Ebola and Marburg viruses.

In a public health advisory, the Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, reassured Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm, adding that further tests are being conducted for other viral haemorrhagic fevers, including Lassa fever and Dengue fever.

One of the suspected cases involved a traveller who recently returned from Kigali and immediately reported to a hospital in Abuja after developing symptoms.

The NCDC noted that this early self-reporting allowed for a swift response that reduced potential risk to the public.

The agency added that it has activated heightened surveillance measures and is working closely with federal and state health authorities to ensure public safety.
