Nigeria has launched a Sustainable Aviation Fuel, SAF, programme as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and position the country as a leader in Africa’s green aviation transition.
The Federal Government inaugurated a seven-member National High-Level SAF Steering Committee, unveiled the National SAF Feasibility Study and launched the ICAO-supported SAF Business Implementation Study in Abuja.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, represented by the Director of Air Transport Management, Mohammed Ahmed Tijani, described the initiative as a major step towards building a resilient and environmentally sustainable aviation industry, saying it would attract investment, create jobs and strengthen energy security.
Director General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, said the launch marks Nigeria’s transition from planning to implementation, adding that the feasibility study provides a roadmap for converting the country’s abundant feedstock resources into commercially viable sustainable aviation fuel production.
He reaffirmed the NCAA’s commitment to coordinating stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the programme.
