Nigeria Volleyball Premier League Crowns New Champions

Nigeria Customs Service are brand new champions of the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League after out spiking previous title holders Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, 3Love, on the final day of the competition yesterday in Akure Ondo state.

For their unbeaten efforts to the top of the table, the Customs ladies pocketed Eight Hundred Thousand naira (N800,000), 2nd placed NSCDC received Six Hundred Thousand naira (N600,000) while the Chief Of Army Spikers collected Five Hundred Thousand naira.

In the men’s category, Offa boys saw off Nigeria Correctional Services 3-2 in a tense matchup to top the final standings on the last day.

Offa became Eight Hundred Thousand naira richer for their title winning efforts, 2nd placed NSCDC pocketed Six Hundred Thousand naira while Customs went home with half a million naira.

For extra motivation, some selected players from various teams were rewarded with individual awards.

AbdulQuadri Jaiyeola of Offa emerged most valuable player MVP, best blocker went to Pascal Ozokoye of NSCDC, Samuel Ogwuche also of NSCDC picked up the best spiker’s award.

In other men’s award, Best Libero- Tiamiyu Ismail, Best Server- Taiwo Badmus, Best Setter- Suleiman Ismail – all from Offa.

The Nigeria Customs dominated the women’s awards with Kelechi Ndukuaba taking home the MVP, best blocker went to Mary Gana while Enewa Odoh was selected as the best setter.

Both Customs and Offa have automatically qualified to represent Nigeria in next year’s African club volleyball championship in a yet to be chosen venue.
