South-West Derby to Light Up Naija Super 8 Final

Sporting Lagos and Remo Stars will contest the final of the inaugural edition of Naija Super 8 Football Competition at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan Lagos.

The hugely supported Sporting came from behind to dismantle Akwa United 2-1 in today’s second semifinal of the competition to pull through.

Akwa drew the first blood on 40mins when midfielder Cyril Olisema converted coolly from the penalty spot.

The goal jolted Sporting into a reaction in the second half.

The bright orange haired Jonathan Alikwu sent in a low cross after a quickly taken free kick to pick out Saturday Okon who jabbed in the equaliser.

Alikwu flew from nowhere to power in a bullet header to send Sporting 2-1 up.

Sensing the game was slipping away, Akwa created some anxious moments in opponents’ goal area as coach Fatai Osho injected some fresh legs.

Sporting were a able to soak up all the pressure from their opponents to eke out a come from behind 2-1 win.

Earlier today Remo Stars sailed through to the final of the tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Lobi Stars.

Goals by Dela Arkoli and Nduka Junior earned Remo the victory over Lobi whose striker Joseph Atule reduced the deficit with a penalty strike deep into the second half to set up a tense finish.

Remo held on to advance to Sunday’s final just as their star midfielder Qudus Akanni picked up the Most Valuable Player award for his sterling efforts in the game.

Sunday’s final between Remo and Sporting after tomorrow’s rest period will kickoff at 5pm inside the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan Lagos.
